Creative workshops and games

The simple act of play is very important to us at West London Welcome. Our asylum-seeking families and individuals live in places that have no or very little communal space to relax in, so incorporated into our weekly activities is the time for our members to be playful together without any serious goals.

Games are a regular part of our acivities at our community member-led salons on Fridays and our parties – whether it’s chess, board games or musical chairs, our members love getting competitive with each other and making each other laugh. Many games we play are excellent for encouraging interaction without complex English, enabling new friendships and fun to blossom irrespective of language ability.

We also organise creative workshops throughout the year for and with our community, from Senegalese group drumming to putting on plays and running stand-up comedy in partnership with Counterpoint Arts.
