Cooking
Our refugee chefs and volunteers work with free surplus groceries delivered to us by The Felix Project to cook delicious hot meals for our community in our kitchen throughout the week.
Each week we have the privilege of enjoying lunches cooked by our Afghan chef and community member, Najeem, and other dedicated volunteers.
Our ability to provide hot food is essential. For a great many of our members it may be the only hot meal they eat from a plate all week, and has more nutrition than what they receive in asylum hotels.
Gathering at lunchtime brings greater social cohesion across the community with members, staff and volunteers all queuing for the delicious buffet and then eating together. Our meals are prepared by those with lived experience of the asylum system and cater to the dietary and cultural needs of our beneficiaries.
In 2024, 9730 individual meals were served to our community. Feedback showed that 100% of beneficiaries will have better nutrition with access to home cooked healthy food at least once a week at our centre. 100% of community members accessed hot meals and groceries at least once a week this year.
