Joanne MacInnes

Born in England but raised in Canada, Joanne attended the National Theatre School of Canada and was an actress until 2015 when she gave it up to fully commit to her campaign We Stand With Shaker. Using social media and a giant, life-like replica, her campaign fought for the release of Shaker Aamer, Britain’s last prisoner in the USA’s unlawful and notorious Guantanamo Bay prison. Joanne was Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Shaker Aamer which successfully saw his release in 2015. She has worked on other prisoner campaigns with Reprieve and volunteered in Calais, and with London-based refugee charities including Hammersmith and Fulham Refugees Welcome.

In 2017 Joanne founded West London Welcome with neighbour and friend Seema Alibhai. Joanne has two teenage girls and lives in West London.
